Orwell, ever the interesting writer, manages to convey a particularly clear impression of the experiences of the urban poor in Europe 75 years ago, and was certainly a fun read. Particularly noteworthy is Orwell's discourse on the lack of necessity for certain types of menial labor, specifically in the restaurant business. The recommendations he makes about helping the urban poor in England were interesting cheifly because of the analytical approach to the causes of the problem in law, and the lack of understanding that occurs because of badly formed laws.
I would certainly recommend the book, at least as an interesting diversion.
